Tim Hutchison - A Short Biography

Tim Hutchison is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee and is now in his fourth term as Sheriff of Knox County.  He was first elected in 1990 and is the longest serving Sheriff in the history of Knox County. A graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy, he supervises a department of approximately 1,005 support staff and certified officers.  Hutchison also has an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Walters State College.
 
He serves on the Board of Directors of the Knox County Enhanced 911 System; he is a member of the Tennessee Sheriff's Association, the National Sheriff's Association, and was appointed to the National Cybercrime Committee.  Sheriff Hutchison is also a member of the International Counter-Terrorism Officer's Association and is certified in Homeland Security through the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute.  In 1998, he was selected by his peers as the National Sheriff of the Year.
 
Sheriff Hutchison established the East Tennessee Homeland Security Council in 2003, which covers 16 counties in East Tennessee.  He developed the School Police Unit in 1999 and currently has an officer in every Knox County high school, middle school, and most elementary schools.  He also established the Knox County Sheriff's Office Regional Training Academy in 1996 and created the Aviation Unit that same year.  Hutchison formed the Family Crisis Unit for domestic violence in 1995 and implemented the D.A.R.E. program in 1992.
 
During Hutchison's thirty two years with the Knox County Sheriff's Office he has served as a Process Server, Jailer, Patrolman, in the Detective Division, in Auto Theft, Sergeant in the Traffic Division, and Lieutenant in the Patrol Division.   He is also a licensed General Contractor.
 
He and his wife, Jan, live in Powell.  They have two daughters and three grandchildren.
